MIA visitor Carol C. with "Creation Story" (2007) by Manasie Akpaliapik (1955-), Ikpiarjuk (Arctic Bay), whale bone, stone, ivory, Private Collection on loan to MIA

Where are you from?

Toronto, ON

What brings you to MIA? Is this your first visit?

Culture Days- to try my hand at Inuit art. An “air-brushed” polar bear and ulu.

Why is this your favourite piece in the collection?

It is entitled the “Creation Story” aptly, as the art piece depicts a polar bear emerging from the stabilized remains of a whale, and depicts several sea animals, as well as the preparation tools used to transform the “catch” into food.
