4 Oct

Playing Favourites is a running series featuring MIA visitors, staff and volunteers with their favorite objects in our collection.  Playing Favourites is open to every person at MIA, so please let us know if you’d like to participate the next time you visit.

MIA visitor Karen O. with“Flying Ravin” (2009) by Morris Alorut  (1963-), Sanirajak, stone, caribou antler, bone, MIA collection.

Where are you from?

New Jersey

What brings you to MIA? Is this your first visit?

From the Toronto Mini Cards. I picked one up at the tourist information desk at Pearson Airport.

Why is this your favourite piece in the collection?

The realism and wonderful carving, as well as the symbolism of the raven. I appreciated the explanatory text in the case near the piece – it helped provide context.
