MIA visitor Lydia H. with “Memories: An Ancient Past” by Abraham Anghik Rubem (1951 – ), Paulatuk, NWT, Whalebone, stone, wood, Private Collection on Loan to MIA

Where are you from?

Bedfordshire, United Kingdom

What brings you to MIA? Is this your first visit?

I hope to study Anthropology at university this October and so have a great interest in culture and people.

Why is this your favourite piece in the collection?

I think this piece really tells a story and the carvings vividly express a sense of emotion within the people, but also their relationship with animals and nature. There is a continuous flow to this piece which spiritually connects the Inuit to their environment.
