Playing Favourites: Michael, May 31, 2011

31 May

Playing Favourites is a running series featuring MIA visitors, staff and volunteers with their favorite objects in our collection.  Playing Favourites is open to every person at MIA, so please let us know if you’d like to participate the next time you visit.

Michael H, MIA Visitor, next to “Sedna” by Bart Hanna, 2009, Sprott/MIA Collection

Where are you from?

Chicoutimi

What brings you to MIA? Is this your first visit?

Yes, this is my first visit.  My daughter lives in Toronto and had a MAP pass from the library.  I also have a personal interest in Inuit Art.

Why is this your favourite piece in the collection?

Sedna as a man – because the style itself is so unique compared to typical Inuit style (in general).  The image of animals coming out of her mouth is interesting – creation force.
